Women's Volleyball Sweeps Widener to Stay Unbeaten in Conference Play

Chester, Pa. (October 14) — The Stevenson Mustangs continued their hot streak Tuesday night, powering past the Widener Pride in straight sets (25–16, 25–18, 25–18) to improve to 4-0 in MAC Commonwealth play.

Set 1:
Stevenson wasted no time setting the tone. A Widener service error handed the Mustangs the opening point, and Rachel Lenz followed with an ace to make it 3–1.Moments later, Logan Burge and Giulia Viglietta took control at the net—Burge hammering home a kill from Declyn Tooze, and Viglietta scoring on back-to-back swings to push the lead to 7–2.

After a brief Widener rally, Stevenson regained rhythm behind setter Courtney Foose who dished out a pair of assists to Sydney Salazar and Lillianna Hornickle. Tooze added a service ace, and the Mustangs never looked back, closing the first set 25–16 on consecutive kills from Hornickle.

Set 2:
Widener came out firing in the second, jumping to a 5–1 lead, but Stevenson quickly responded.
Kills from Viglietta and Lenz, followed by a key block from Burge, tied the set at 5–5.

The teams traded points through the midpoint until Stevenson's defense took charge- Viglietta and Burge combined for a pair of stuff blocks, and Lilly Eichelberger rattled off a run from the service line that included an ace and forced multiple Widener attack errors.

With momentum squarely on their side, the Mustangs closed out the frame 25–18, capped by Hornickle's kill from Tooze and a Foose service ace.

Set 3:
The Mustangs jumped ahead 4–0 in the final set, led by a Tooze ace and a powerful Burge kill down the middle. Though Widener battled back to even the score at 4–4, Stevenson's composure shined once more.Viglietta and Hornickle found success on the outside, while Salazar came through with a pair of timely kills to maintain the lead.

Hornickle then delivered back-to-back service aces to stretch the margin, and Burge dominance continued at the net, recording multiple kills and blocks down the stretch. Stevenson closed the night at 25–18 on a Lenz kill from Tooze to remain unbeaten in conference play.
