Women's Volleyball Power Past Marymount, 3–1

Arlington, Va. (October 16) – The Stevenson women's volleyball team earned a 3–1 road win over Marymount (Va.) on Thursday night inside Converse Family Fieldhouse, taking the match by scores of 25–18, 21–25, 25–23, and 25–23. The Mustangs improve to 12–9 overall and 4–0 in MAC Commonwealth play.

Set 1:
Stevenson opened strong, jumping out to a quick 2–0 lead with a kill from Emma Shaffer and an attack error forced by Declyn Tooze's serve. Giulia Viglietta and Sydney Salazar led the attack early, combining for several points at the net.

A 5–0 run in the middle of the set, fueled by kills from Rachel Lenz and Logan Burge, extended Stevenson's lead to 18–13. Salazar added another kill to keep momentum on the Mustangs' side, and a late surge from the service line by Allie Gaus helped close it out. Stevenson claimed the first set 25–18 to take control of the match.

Set 2:
Marymount responded with energy in the second set, using strong serving and steady defense to build a 9–2 lead. Stevenson began to find rhythm behind kills from Lenz, Salazar, and Burge, narrowing the deficit to 15–13 midway through the frame.

Despite a late push that included back-to-back kills from Viglietta and a service ace from Lenz, Marymount held on to take the set 25–21 and even the match at one apiece.

Set 3:
The third set was a back-and-forth battle from the start, with both teams trading points through the opening rallies. Stevenson relied on balanced play from Salazar and Viglietta, while Tooze and Foose distributed the ball efficiently.

A short run capped by a Tooze service ace put the Mustangs ahead 17–12, but Marymount answered with a late surge to tie it at 23–23. Stevenson regrouped, with Salazar pounding down a key kill to bring up set point. A Saints attack error sealed the 25–23 win for the Mustangs, giving them a 2–1 match lead.

Set 4:
Stevenson carried its momentum into the fourth set, starting with a Burge kill and a Zepfel ace for an early edge. The Mustangs maintained a slim lead throughout, highlighted by key swings from Salazar and Lenz.

Marymount fought back late to close within one, but Lenz delivered consecutive kills to push the Mustangs ahead 24–22. On match point, Zepfel and Mykiah Williams combined for a block to finish off the set 25–23 and secure the 3–1 victory.

Stevenson will enjoy its home coming weekend and will return to the court on Wednesday October 22 at 7 pm, as they travel to Alvernia for MAC Commonwealth action.
