Women's Volleyball Battles Hard, but Falls in Five-Set Thriller at Salisbury

Salisbury, Md. (October 12)– The Stevenson women's volleyball team went the distance Sunday afternoon they faced host against Salisbury in the final meeting in the quad-match, narrowly falling 3–2 in a tightly contested five-set battle (25–16, 18–25, 25–19, 14–25, 12–15).

Set 1:
Stevenson stormed out of the gate with a dominant first-set win, fueled by early service pressure from Courtney Foose and a commanding net presence from Logan Burge and Sydney Salazar, who paired for multiple key blocks. Giulia Viglietta led the offensive charge with six kills and pinpoint placement, while the defense anchored by Lilly Eichelberger kept rallies alive. The Mustangs closed on a 9–2 run to take the opener convincingly.

Set 2:
The second frame saw the Seagulls gain traction offensively. Despite several strong kills from Lenz and Burge, Stevenson couldn't overcome Salisbury's late-set surge. Viglietta continued to find success on the outside, and Tooze's setting rhythm kept the offense steady, but the Mustangs dropped the set 25–18 to even the match.

Set 3:
Stevenson regrouped with confidence in the third, jumping out to a 6–0 lead behind Tooze's serving run that included two aces. Lenz delivered a dominant stretch, recording back-to-back kills and leading a block that shut down Salisbury's attack. Emma Shaffer made an immediate impact at the net, tallying a set-clinching kill to give the Mustangs a 2–1 lead in the match.

Set 4:
The Seagulls rebounded with heavy offense in the fourth, capitalizing on Mustang miscues. Despite a few bright moments from Viglietta and Lenz, Salisbury's momentum carried through the frame. Stevenson remained composed, however, setting up an intense deciding fifth set.

Set 5:
The final set was a back-and-forth battle with eight ties and four lead changes. Viglietta opened with a pair of kills, and Burge added a big block to keep things tight. Foose's serving run gave Stevenson a 7–4 advantage midway through, but Salisbury managed a late rally to edge out the win, and 3-2 match overall.

Stevenson will look to rebound in conference play as they will remain on the road for a visit to MAC Commonwealth foe, Widener on Tuesday, October 14 at 7 p.m.
