ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Stevenson women's basketball team snagged a 56-47 win over the Eastern University Eagles to grab the squad's first MAC Commonwealth contest victory of the season.
Emori Jeselskis led the team with a 13-point night, as
Nadia Ferguson put up 11 points.
Tessa Boswell netted a three-pointer off a pass form
Erin Dixon to start off the contest 36 seconds into the match. The team then battled with Eastern to notch a 16-14 lead heading into the second quarter. Boswell again opened scoring with a driving layup with another assist from Dixon to slot the four-point lead, but Eastern pushed offensively to come out at halftime leading 27-24.
In the third quarter, Eastern kept fighting and extended their lead 41-37 heading into the final quarter. Less than a minute into the fourth quarter,
Janiya Ennis tied the game 41-41 for the Mustangs, as Dixon followed with a jumper to give Stevenson their first lead since the beginning of the second quarter. With less than two minutes left to play, Ferguson extended the Mustangs' lead to 56-47 over the Eagles, forcing them to take their last time out. Stevenson pushed hard defensively for the last couple minutes to take the 56-47 win.
Jeselskis had a 13-point night while grabbing three rebounds, as Ferguson followed with 11 points, four steals and a pair of rebounds and assists. Ennis netted nine points for the Mustangs with five rebounds and three assists, and Boswell notched seven points with three rebounds. Dixon led the assists column with six on the evening, and
Janie Smith led the team with nine rebounds, while
Stephenae Lawrence tallied eight.
The Mustangs will return to Owings Mills Gymnasium to face Widener in MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m.
