PITTSTON, Pa. - Stevenson Women's Hockey rounded out their regular season series with King's this evening on the road. The Mustangs scored early and held on as King's was unable to make a comeback.
Senior Megan Swick struck with just over 40 seconds remaining in the first period, citing an assist from first year Jalyn Jones. The goal was Swick's fifth on the year while the assist was Jones' second.
Maintaining the momentum from the late first-period goal, graduate student Franki Cappello doubled the Mustangs' lead for her second goal of the season, giving junior Kendall Girnt her first point of the season on the assist.
King's found the back of the net shortly after on their power-play, but that was the only luck they would have for the rest of the game.
Junior netminder Maggie Sehnert shut down the Monarchs' attempts, making 40 saves to maintain the Mustangs' lead.
In front of Sehnert, Girnt led the team with three blocks, followed by graduate student Gracie Payne and first year Kira Otto with two blocks apiece.
In the circle, graduate student Katie May went 12-for-17.
The win puts the Mustangs at 6-11-1 overall and 4-9-1 in conference heading into tomorrow's MAC contest against (RV) Wilkes University. Puck drop is set for 3:30 p.m.
