READING, Pa. – The Stevenson women's basketball team dropped 73-74 to the Alvernia Golden Wolves in a tight MAC Commonwealth contest on Saturday afternoon.
Janiya Ennis put up a career-high of 29-points in the contest.
Erin Dixon put up the first basket of the contest followed with a jumper from Ennis to put the Mustangs up 4-0. Alvernia caught up with the Mustangs, but both teams battled to end the quarter tied 19-19. In the second quarter, both squads kept the contest tight, but the Golden Wolves slotted a 34-39 lead heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Golden Wolves held a small lead throughout the quarter, but the Mustangs held on within a basket's reach. In the final quarter, Ennis tied the contest 69-69 with 3:25 on the clock, then gave Stevenson a three-point lead with a floating jump shot and a free throw. Alvernia responded with a layup, but Ennis netted free throws to make it a 73-71 game. With five seconds left in the contest Alvernia put away a three-pointer to register the one-point win over Stevenson, 73-74.
Ennis had a career-high 29-point game and dished out three assists and posted.
Stephenae Lawrence netted 14 points, with four rebounds and led the team posting four steals. Dixon registered 13 points for the Mustangs with three rebounds, as
Kalea Wynter led Stevenson in the rebounds column with 10.
Stevenson will travel to face No. 18 Messiah on Wednesday evening. The MAC Commonwealth match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Grantham, Pa.
