HERSHEY, Pa. - Stevenson Men's Hockey traveled to historic Hersheypark Arena tonight to begin their MAC series with Lebanon Valley. Though the Dutchmen got on the board first, the Mustangs bounced back for three straight goals, two of which earned Liam McCanney the final two points he needed to achieve 100 career points.
Lebanon Valley scored just five minutes into the first period, but the Mustangs only dealt with the deficit for six minutes thanks to senior Graeme McCrory. McCrory's second goal of the season was assisted by classmates Dylan Florit for his 12th point of the year and Liam McCanney for his 15th of the year and 99th of his career.
On a Mustang power-play five minutes later, junior Blake Benson found the back of the net via seniors Evan Beers and Aidan Graham to give Stevenson a lead that would last over 40 minutes. The goal was Benson's ninth of the season while the assists were Beers' and Graham's 11th and sixth of the year, respectively.
The second period saw no goals, as did most of the third.Â
In the final minute with an empty Lebanon Valley net, Liam McCanney fired a shot the length of the ice to score his 61st career goal and 100th career point.
McCanney broke the all-time points record as a junior, and made history tonight as the program's first-ever player to reach 100 points.
In net, junior Ford DeLoss made 21 stops, including nine in the third period to halt a Dutchmen comeback.
The win puts the Mustangs at 10-5-2 overall and 7-4-2 in MAC play. They look to extend their win streak to three tomorrow afternoon when they face the Dutchmen once more at the Giant Center.
