OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's basketball team secured a crucial 56-44 win over the Hood Blazers in MAC Commonwealth play on Wednesday evening. This win marks Head Coach
Jackie Boswell's 100
th MAC Commonwealth win.
Hood opened scoring on the evening with 8:20 on the clock, and less than a minute later
Emori Jeselskis put the Mustangs on the board to make it a 2-2 game. The Blazers built up an 12-6 lead with just under three minutes left, but the Mustangs closed it to make it a 12-10 game at the end of the first.
In the second quarter, Hood put the first two points on the board, but the team replied with four points and a layup and free throw from
Stephenae Lawrence to notch a 17-14 lead for Stevenson. As the quarter continued, both teams battled to a 21-21 tie with just under two minutes remaining, but Jeselskis netted a pair of free-throws to give Stevenson the 23-21 lead heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, both teams battled back and forth, and despite the Blazers staying within reach of Stevenson, the Mustangs headed into the final quarter leading 39-34. The Mustangs then came out hot in the fourth quarter and put up 17 points while holding Hood to 10 to secure the 56-44 win.
Lawrence led the team with a 16-point evening while grabbing eight rebounds and three steals.
Nadia Ferguson,
Elia Richardson, and Jeselskis each contributed seven points in the contest as
Janiya Ennis and
Kalea Wynter put up six points.
Stevenson will prepare to jump on the road to head up to Reading, Pa. to face Alvernia in MAC Commonwealth action on Saturday. The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
