Four Mustangs score in 6-3 MAC victory over King’s

REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Women's Ice Hockey hosted MAC foe King's College this evening on home ice. A three-goal first period from the Mustangs would indicate the game's future outcome as they added another three goals to come away with a 6-3 victory.

Graduate student defenseman Gracie Payne scored just two minutes into the game, citing assists from sophomores Abby Smith and Emma DeMan

King's would bounce back defensively for most of the period afterwards, but first year Kira Otto and sophomore Carleigh Barwick would each find the back of the net before the first 20 expired. Barwick's fifth goal of the season was a solo effort while Otto's power-play goal was assisted by Payne and sophomore Meghan Croyle.

King's found some firepower in the first half of the second period, notching two goals. However, Stevenson did not let the period come and go without getting on the board, and a late power-play opportunity was capitalized upon by senior Megan Swick. Her fourth goal of the season was assisted by Barwick and DeMan.

The Mustangs would notch their third power-play goal in the third period, giving Kira Otto her second goal of the night and fourth goal of the year. On the play, Meghan Croyle picked up her team-leading 13th point of the season and graduate student Franki Cappello earned her seventh.

Though King's scored with just over four minutes remaining, Gracie Payne returned to the scoresheet with an empty-netter, accounting for her third point of the night. Otto earned her third of the evening as well, and junior Maggie Dean picked up her third of the season.

In the circle, both Meghan Croyle and Katie May won nine draws.

In net, junior Maggie Sehnert made 35 stops.

The Mustangs improve to 5-10 overall and 3-8 in the MAC with the victory. They look to complete the sweep tomorrow afternoon with their 3 p.m. puck drop against the Monarchs.
