WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Stevenson Men's Hockey traveled to King's College this evening for game one of their weekend series with the
Monarchs. After a 2-2 split to end regulation, the Mustangs went 2-0 in the shootout to bring home the extra point.
The first period ended scoreless, but Stevenson wasted little time getting on the board in the second period. Junior Connor MacDonell netted his fourth goal of the season at the six-minute mark, giving first year Aiden Lindley his seventh assist of the season in the process.
King's, however, notched the equalizer within the last 30 seconds of the period.
Junior Blake Benson struck at the midway point of the third to give the Mustangs the lead once more, accounting for his 13th point on the year. Assisting Benson in the scoring effort were classmates Caden Smith and John Musella for their eighth and fourth points on the year, respectively.
With just over one minute to spare in regulation, King's scored the game-tying goal to force overtime. Neither team had success in the three-on-three period, resulting in a shootout.
In addition to his 26 regulation and overtime saves, junior netminder Ford DeLoss was flawless in the shootout, stopping both Monarch shooters.
For the Mustangs, seniors Evan Beers and Liam McCanney lit the lamp, securing the extra MAC point for the visitors.
The Mustangs, now 8-5-2 overall and 5-4-2 in the MAC, look to earn a regulation victory over the Monarchs tomorrow at 4 p.m. to round out the series.
