REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Men's Hockey hosted (RV) Neumann again today in their second meeting of the season. The Mustangs came out strong yet again, scoring twice in the opening period to set the tone. Though Neumann would attempt a comeback, the Mustangs scored twice more to come away with a 4-2 MAC win.
Junior Caden Smith opened up the Stevenson scoring on the power-play late in the first, citing assists from senior Evan Beers and junior Blake Benson.
While the Knights were still recovering, the Mustangs struck again. This time, first year Gage Parillo found the back of the net alongside classmates Aiden Lindley and Jack Costabile to put the Mustangs up 2-0 after the first period.
After a scoreless second period, it would be the Knights to strike first, capitalizing on a third period power-play.
Senior Liam McCanney took matters into his own hands on the Stevenson penalty kill later in the period, scoring after receiving a stretch pass from Beers.
Neumann reduced the goal deficit to one once again with just over one minute remaining, but McCanney was back for an empty-netter, accounting for his 11th goal on the season. Assisting him in the game's final seconds were Beers and classmate Dylan Florit, who now boast nine assists each on the season.
Junior Ford DeLoss made 31 stops in the victory, bringing his save total to 274 on the year.
In the circle, Aiden Lindley and Blake Benson each won 11 draws, followed by senior Graeme McCrory with ten.
The victory puts the Mustangs at 8-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in conference play. They look to double their win streak next weekend with their trip to King's College.
