SCRANTON, Pa. – The Stevenson University dropped two matches at the Electric City Invitational on Saturday, hosted by the University of Scranton.
In the opener, Stevenson nearly pulled off the reverse sweep, falling to Wesleyan 3-2. In the final match of the night, Scranton defeated the Mustangs (8-6) 3-0.

Set scores were 25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 24-26 and 15-5 in favor of the Cardinals (7-4).
Rachel Lenz had a team-high 14 kills, with
Giulia Viglietta and
Maren Zepfel each with ten.
Samantha Simmers had three aces, with
Kylie DesLauriers and
Nicolette Fuglestad each with two.
At the net,
Lilly Hornickle and
Zakara Masibo each had three blocks. Simmers had 20 assists, with
Makala Thompson with 16.
Fuglestad added in 20 digs defensively, with Lenz getting 13 and Thompson 11.
After dropping the first two sets, Stevenson took a commanding 21-14 lead in the third set by scoring six straight points. During that run, Simmers had three service aces.
In the fourth set, the lead went back-and-forth, with Stevenson going up 14-9. However, Wesleyan rallied and went on a 6-0 run to go up 15-14. Back came Stevenson, scoring the final four points of the set to win 26-24.
In set five, Wesleyan scored four straight points to go up 6-2 and never looked back.

Set scores went in favor of the Royals (8-6) 25-16, 25-15 and 25-14.
DesLauriers had six kills, while Lenz and Hornickle added in four.
Claire Thompson had three aces.
At the net, Hornickle had three blocks. Thompson had eight assists, with Simmers having seven.
Defensively, Simmers had nine digs as did DesLauriers.
Stevenson hosts Messiah in a key MAC Commonwealth match on Tuesday at 7.
