Mustangs outshoot in first half, drop to Flying Dutchmen

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Stevenson women's soccer (2-4-1) made 11 shots in the first half to the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen's eight (3-3-0) on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs ultimately gave up the game 1-0.

Within the first 10 minutes of play, sophomore midfield Karly Sheahan and sophomore forward Madison Rytina found the net in the bottom center, but were ultimately saved by the defense. Five minutes later, junior midfield Kayla Gerbes missed out top. Unable to break the Flying Dutchmen's defense, graduate student defense Kelly Schultz and junior forward Courtney Keehner pushed subsequently. Following substitutions, The Mustangs made five more attempts on the half. Sophomore midfield Elena Heins finished with the final attempt of the half. The game was still scoreless 0-0.

Within three minutes into the second half, another attempt by Gerbes was denied by the defense. 16 minutes into the half came the lone goal on the afternoon. Destined to tie, the Mustangs found one last attempt with less than two minutes left from Keehner, missing out left.

Both teams tied in shots with 15 on the afternoon, with the Mustangs making four saves as sophomore goalkeeper Alison Halstead was in goal for all 90. Topping the team offensively was Heins with three shots, all on goal. Gerbes, Keehner, and sophomore defense Colleen Fanning each added a pair.

The Mustangs return home to East Campus this Tuesday, September 24 when they take on Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m.
