Mustangs blank Seahawks, improve to 6-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Field Hockey hosted St. Mary's College of Maryland this evening in a non-conference matchup. The Mustangs got on the board early, having scored the game-winner within the first five minutes.

Stevenson registered three shots in the first quarter, and all three found their way into the net. The scoring spree started with graduate student Emma Gladstein, who fought through the Seahawk defense in front of their net after getting a pass from senior Nicole Ziegler.

Gladstein was back on the board less than a minute later to double the Mustangs' lead, accounting for her eighth goal on the season.

Sophomore Monica Druckemiller notched her first goal of the season just minutes later after a corner inserted by classmate Lauren Schulz and a pass from Gladstein. Both were credited with assists on the play.

Stevenson's final goal was another career first as sophomore Shae Bennett recorded her first score in a Mustang uniform on a penalty stroke.

St. Mary's mustered four shots on goal, two of which were stopped by sophomore Jordan Vradenburgh in the second and third quarters. The remaining two were denied by first year goalkeeper Ollie Winterle, which were the first two saves of her career.

The win puts the Mustangs at 6-0 on the season with five shutouts. Stevenson looks to carry this momentum into their road contest at Bridgewater College this Saturday, September 21st.
