ANNVILLE, Pa. – Homestanding Lebanon Valley built a 20-0 lead in the second quarter as the Flying Dutchmen (1-1, 1-0 Middle Atlantic Conference) handed Stevenson (0-2, 0-1 Middle Atlantic Conference) a 37-7 set back in the MAC opener for both football teams on Saturday afternoon.
Stevenson's lone score came in the second quarter as
Landon Winterbottom threw a 1-yard scoring pass to
Deion Richardson to put the halftime deficit to 20-7.
Winterbottom finished 9-for-24 for 102 yards, with three different Mustangs catching passes.
Dillon Johnson caught a team and game-high six passes for 63 yards.
The Mustangs rushed for 116 yards as
Kirk Reed and
Elijah Williams each carried the ball five times. Reed rushed for 37 yards and Williams rushed for 30 on the afternoon.
Clarence Travis had ten tackles for Stevenson, with
Bryan Kelly and
Gavin Shields each making eight stops. Christopher Velardi made seven tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
Lebanon Valley scored on its opening drive, going 44 yards in 14 plays, culminating in a field goal from 36 yards out from Tim Kissinger for a 3-0 lead with 4:53 left. LVC went up 10-0 almost three and a half minutes later as they went 67 yards in three plays, capped by a 62-yard touchdown pass from Braden Bohannon to Drew Campbell.
An interception by LVC set them up at the Stevenson 37 just five seconds into the second quarter, which then netted a 48-yard field goal from Tim Kissinger and a 13-0 lead.
Another turnover resulted in another LVC score and a 20-0 lead with 7:56 left in the second quarter as Bohannon and Campbell hooked up for a 23-yard score.
Stevenson then went 91 yards in ten plays, with Winterbottom throwing to Richardson for the Mustangs' lone score 3:29 left in the opening half.
LVC took a 27-7 lead with 5:16 left in the third as Logan Klitsch threw a 9-yard pass to Adam Acker, followed by the Dutchmen's next score with 2:43 left in the third as Klitsch threw a 36-yard scoring pass to Ethan Heisey.
Kissinger would connect on a 32-yard field goal 3:15 into the final quarter for the final 37-7 margin.
Stevenson would mount one final drive toward the end of the game, before ending the game on the LVC 8-yard line.
The Mustangs return home for a two-game homestand next Saturday, taking on defending MAC Champion Delaware Valley.
