WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Stevenson University women's volleyball team got slipped up by the Catholic University of America on Wednesday night, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Cardinals.
Set scores were 27-25, 20-25, 25-21 and 26-24.
The Mustangs came out hot in the first set, hitting .306 (19-4-49) and finished hitting .111 on the night (61-25-176).
Rachel Lenz had a team-high 16 kills with
Giulia Viglietta getting 13 and
Maren Zepfel netting ten.
Kylie DesLauriers had three aces, as did Lenz.
At the net,
Zakara Masibo had a team-high four blocks with Viglietta having three.
Makala Thompson had 23 assists as did
Samantha Simmers.
Nicolette Fuglestad had 18 digs with Lenz getting 14 and
Claire Thompson 14.
In the first set, Stevenson trailed 10-6 before kills from Viglietta and
Adriana Anderson – along with two attack errors – tied the score at 10-all. The teams would trade the lead, before Stevenson had a 25-24 lead and served set point. Catholic (3-5) however, got the last three points of the set to take the 1-0 lead.
In set two, Stevenson broke open a 16-11 match by scoring five straight points, with Lenz having a kill and two service aces.
In set three. Catholic scored five straight points to open an 11-all tie and take control. Stevenson would crawl back within two at 21-19, but, could not get any closer.
In the fourth and final set, Stevenson had set points at 24-23 and 25-24, but like the first set, Catholic got the final three points to secure the win.
Stevenson has the rest of the week off, before hosting Marymount next Wednesday.
