WINCHESTER, Va. - Stevenson Men's Soccer traveled south tonight for a non-conference contest with Shenandoah University. After 87 scoreless minutes, the hosting Hornets broke the stalemate to come away with a 1-0 victory.
Shenandoah's offense had a strong showing in the first half as the Hornets got 11 shots off. Of the 11, two landed on net and both were denied by junior goalkeeper Nolen Olson-Warwick. Senior Bryant Seivers was responsible for Stevenson's lone shot in the first half, which was saved. The Hornets boasted all four corner kick opportunities that were granted in the first half.
Olson-Warwick had an even busier second half, facing 17 total shots and making four saves. Shenandoah added eight more corners in the latter 45. Stevenson totaled four shots, coming from juniors Gianfranco Vitella and Patrick Caulden and sophomores Landon Eaton and Ellis Amo-Gottfried. Eaton's shot landed on goal.
With just two minutes and 17 seconds remaining in the match, Shenandoah's Gabe Eckenrode found the back of the net.
The Mustangs, now 1-2-1, look to get back into the win column on Saturday on the East Campus. Stevenson hosts Elizabethtown at 1 p.m.
