Field Hockey blanks Sewanee for opening weekend sweep

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Field Hockey hosted Sewanee this afternoon to round out opening weekend. After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs would have a productive third quarter to come away with a 3-0 victory.

The first quarter ended with an even two shots apiece for the Mustangs and Tigers, but Stevenson was the lone team to register shots in the second, tallying five.

The Mustangs came out strong in the third as graduate student Emma Gladstein scored just two minutes into the quarter, citing an assist from sophomore Shae Bennett for her second of the season.

Senior Haley Palmer was not far behind Gladstein, netting her second goal of the weekend five minutes later. Gladstein earned the assist off of the penalty corner.

With just 16 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Gladstein notched her second goal thanks to a setup by sophomore Anna Zadel. After today's performance, Gladstein leads the Mustangs with six points.

In net, sophomore Jordan Vradenburgh and first year Ollie Winterle saw time, with Vradenburgh making a big stop in the fourth quarter to preserve the Mustangs' shutout.

The 2-0 Mustangs return to action on Wednesday, September 4th when they travel to Elizabethtown College for a 6 p.m. non-conference contest.
