OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Men's Lacrosse hosted Franklin and Marshall College this evening in their final non-conference contest of the season. Eleven different Mustangs combined to achieve Stevenson's season-high 21-goal finish, limiting the Diplomats to 11 goals against.
Though the Diplomats scored within the first minute of the game, the Mustangs were quick to recover. Sophomore Max Racich found the back of the net via junior Grant Zick just 30 seconds after Franklin and Marshall's game-opening goal. Junior Graeme McCrory followed, citing an assist from classmate Jack Scaliti, who then scored a goal of his own with assistance from senior Andrew Searing.Â
First year Hunter Bryant got on the board with Zick before Scaliti scored his second of the night and junior Jered Monar notched his first in a solo effort. Racich, Zick, and Bryant would all score again before the quarter expired with Racich and Monar both recording two assists.
First year Darrell Curtis scored to open the second quarter along with Searing, both of whom were assisted by Monar. Zick and Searing scored in succession before first year Carter Grear scored his third goal of the season via Scaliti. Senior Conor Halpin would win a face-off with 11 seconds remaining, finding the back of the net at the two-second mark.
McCrory scored his second goal of the night and fifth of the season to start the third quarter. He was followed by Monar and Zick to end the third, while Curtis and first year Gavin Gossen recorded the lone points of the fourth quarter.Â
Zick's game-high seven points tonight bring his season total to a team-high 39. Monar's six bring him to 14 this season. Racich sits second with 31 points followed by Scaliti with 21 and Searing with 18. Curtis and Bryant boast 13 and 11 points in their rookie campaigns, respectively.
On face-offs tonight, Halpin tied for a career-high 24 wins and 18 ground balls. His 18 ground balls tie the single-game program record, which he matched for the first time earlier this season at Catholic. Senior Ryan Quinn recorded a game-high three caused turnovers as well as four ground balls.
In net, graduate student Justin Scorese and first year Nicholas Parolin combined for seven saves.Â
The victory puts Stevenson at an even 5-5 heading into conference play. The Mustangs head to Eastern University this Saturday, April 6th for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Eagles.
