CHESTER, Pa. –
Isabelle VanEmburgh scored two goals in the fourth quarter, with the last coming at 9:48, breaking open a 5-5 tie pacing Stevenson (11-6, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth) to a 7-6 win over Widener (8-9, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) Saturday afternoon in women's lacrosse play.
With the win, Stevenson locked up the third seed in the upcoming playoffs and will take on Messiah on Wednesday in the semifinals.
VanEmburgh was one of six players to score in the game, with
Sophia Murray having two assists for a team-high three points. She also had seven draw controls, crossing the 100 draw control mark for her career.
Melina Primrose and
Kara Yarusso each had three ground balls, with VanEmburgh getting two. Yarusso had three caused turnovers with VanEmburgh and
Marisa Massimini each causing two.
In goal,
Anna Johnston made nine saves.
Widener led 2-0 early in the first quarter, before Stevenson got on the board was
Ava Treakle scored with 5:06 left in the first followed by a goal rom Massimini at 1:54 which tied the first quarter at 2-all.
Trailing 4-3, Murray scored with 1:30 left to tie the score before Steinberg scored with 11 seconds left on a Murray assist to give Stevenson a 5-4 lead.
Widener had a chance to tie the score at the end but the free position shot went high.
