GRANTHAM, Pa. – Three goals over the span of three minutes in the fourth quarter propelled Stevenson to a 10-9 win over Messiah in the semifinals of the 2024 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Conference playoffs on Wednesday.
With the win, Stevenson (12-6) will take on top-seeded York on Saturday in the championship at a time to be determined.
Erin Steinberg had a goal and an assist during that time, including an assist on the eventual game-winning goal which was scored by
Ava Treakle at the 5:59 mark.
Treakle had three goals on the day, while Steinberg had five points (three goals and two assists).
Kara Yarusso had three goals and one assist, with
Sophia Murray adding in a goal.
Yarusso had six draw controls, with Treakle and Murray getting two. Murray had three ground balls as did
Isabelle VanEmburgh.
In goal,
Regan Torbert made four saves in the final 17 minutes in relief of
Anna Johnston who had seven saves.
Both teams traded the lead before Stevenson pulled away for the first time before halftime as Treakle scored at 3:11 left in the second quarter on an assist from Steinberg while
Yarusso scored on a man-up goal with 23 seconds left for a 6-4 lead.
Stevenson would then get a goal from Steinberg at 12:30 of the third to go up 7-4, before Messiah scored the next four to go up 8-7.
