OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson University is proud to announce the Class of 2024 for the Dick Watts Athletics Hall of Fame. The class includes six former student-athletes, one team of tradition and one contributor. The class will be inducted at a ceremony scheduled for Saturday, October 19 at 6 p.m., in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend.
This year's class includes Jessica Gieselman '14 (Women's Volleyball), Samantha (Lewis) Perillo '14 (Women's Volleyball), Marissa Meikeljohn '14 (Women's Lacrosse), Brent Hiken '14 (Men's Lacrosse), Kyle Holechek '14 (Men's Lacrosse) and Justin Anderson '12 (Baseball).
The Women's Volleyball team from 2013 will be inducted as a team of tradition, while their head coach, David Trumbo, will be inducted as a contributor.
Gieselman was a three-time AVCA All-American and was a three-time first-team All-Region selection. She was the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2012 and 2013, while leading the 2013 to the NCAA Division III Regional Final. She was the NCAA Division III Assist Per Set Leader In 2013 at 11.57.
Perillo excelled on the court and in the classroom. She was the MAC Senior Scholar Athlete in 2014, in addition to being CoSIDA Academic All-District. A two-time MAC All-Academic selection, she was the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2014. A three-time MAC Commonwealth All-Conference First-Team selection, she was an honorable mention All-American three times. She is the all-time leader in digs in school history at 2,562 and played in a school record 149 matches. She is also second in school history in service aces at 199.
Meiklejohn was the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2013 on her way to being named a third-team All-American. She is fourth all-time in points at 229 (173g, 56a) while being the school's leader in goals at 173. Her 56 assists is tied for fifth all-time in school history. She led the Mustangs to the MAC Commonwealth Championship in 2014 as the team advanced to the NCAA Second Round.
Hiken, a member of the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship team, was named the USILA National Outstanding Specialty Player of the Year in 2014, on his way to being a first-team All-American in 2014. He was an honorable mention All-American in 2013. He is the school record holder in face-off percentage at .715, while being fourth all-time in faceoff wins at 452. He is third all-time in ground balls at 311.
Holechek, also a member of the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship team, was a two-time first-team All-American in 2013 and 2014. He is second all-time in caused turnovers with 139 and was the 2014 USILA National Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year. He was a second-team All-American in 2012.
Anderson litters the Stevenson University record book in several categories, including being the school's all-time hits leader at 207. He is fourth all-time in games played at 160 and posted a career batting average of .354. He was a three-time All-Capital Athletic Conference selection with a first-team selection in both 2010 and 2012. He was a ABCA Gold Glove selection in 2012, and was a third-team ABCA All-Region selection in 2012. He was also a CoSIDA Academic All-America selection during his senior year.
The 2013 Women's Volleyball team advanced to the Regional Final of the NCAA tournament after winning the MAC Commonwealth Conference Championship finishing with a record of 37-3; the team boasted three All-Americans, five first-team All-Conference picks along with the Coach of the Year and the Conference Player of the Year.
Trumbo, the coach of the women's volleyball team and the women's beach volleyball team, has built two successful programs. The women's beach volleyball team, the first in NCAA Division III, has been one of the top small-college programs in the country. In 2018, the Mustangs finished second at the inaugural AVCA Small College National Championship, while they posted the first-ever win over a Division I opponent, topping Morehead State. In 2022, the Mustangs earned their first-ever AVCA Small College National Championship with a 4-0 win over Hendrix. That same year, Emily Pellini and Shannon Baily were named Stevenson's first-ever AVCA Small College Beach All-Americans.
In women's volleyball, the program has totaled 420 wins, 21 All-Americans, 47 All-Conference selections, five Player of the Year selections, three Rookie of the Year selections, 12 postseason appearances, including 11 straight appearances in the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship from 2011-22 (there was no tournament during the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 outbreak) in Trumbo's 17 years at the helm.
