Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Stevenson men's tennis team dropped a tight match against host Messiah, 5-4. The loss drops the Mustangs (5-8, 4-1 MACC) into second place in the MAC Commonwealth standings. Despite the loss, Stevenson has already clinched the No. 2 seed in the conference semifinal.
Larry Johnson III and
Simeon Smith continued their winning ways with an 8-5 victory in No. 1 doubles - moving their record to 8-3. However,
Garrett Warren and
Sathwik Madasi would drop a hard-fought match in No. 2, 8-6.
Honour Zan and
Dominic Duncan fell in No. 3, 8-2.
Johnson cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory in No. 1 to improve to 8-3 on the year. Madasi had to withdraw from play due to an injury while down, 4-2.Â
Zan improved his season record to 7-1 in a 6-2, 6-4 triumph in No. 4, while Warren (No. 5) won in three sets, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.Â
In No. 6, Duncan would drop his match in straight sets. In the deciding match, Smith lost the first set before dropping a heart-breaking second-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
The Mustangs will look to end the regular season on a good note when they travel to Eastern on Saturday, April 27. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
