OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson University women's lacrosse team locked up a spot in the upcoming Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Conference Wednesday, defeating Albright 19-5.
With the win, the Mustangs (9-6, 3-2) will need to defeat Widener on Saturday in the final game of the regular season to earn the third seed. A defeat to the Pride will give the Mustangs the fourth seed.
Kara Yarusso led the way with six goals and three assists, including her 200
th career point with 6:11 left in the first quarter as she scored her first goal of the game.
Ava Treakle had four goals and one assists while
Erin Steinberg,
Kellyann Coccia,
Isabelle VanEmburgh and
Sophia Murray each had two goals in the win. Steinberg and
Bailey Krahl netted two assists.
Marisa Massimini, Treakle, Melina Primose and Yarusso each had two ground balls, with Yarusso having two caused turnovers.
Yarusso led all players with seven draw controls, while Treakle had five and Murray netted four.
In goal,
Anna Johnston made seven saves in earning her second win of the season.
Stevenson put the game out of reach early, scoring the game's first five as five different players scored.
Prior to and during the game, the team recognized Stevenson University faculty members for their continued support of the team and the athletic program.
