READING, Pa. - Stevenson Men's Lacrosse made history tonight with a new single-game scoring high. The Mustangs downed Albright 34-1, breaking the previous single game record of 33 achieved in the 2018 season against Hood.
Stevenson came out hot with an eight-goal first quarter, scoring three within the first two and a half minutes of the game. The second quarter saw 12 more goals and the Mustangs would add another 14 by the game's end.
Seventeen different Mustangs scored tonight, and nine of those players scored at least twice. Senior Dillon Linhardt led the charge with a career-best six goals on the night, followed by sophomore Max Racich who scored four goals and added an assist. So far this season, Linhardt boasts 14 goals while Racich leads the Mustangs with 41.
Tying Linhardt's six-point effort was first year Darrell Curtis, who recorded a hat trick as well as three assists to bring his season point total to 40. Senior Andrew Searing also tallied three goals and an assist for 34 points this season.
First years Gavin Gossen and Dominic Eckels, juniors Jack Scaliti and Luke Wetzel, as well as senior Colin Abbonizio put up two goals apiece. Gossen tied for a game-high three assists with Curtis and junior Grant Zick. Scaliti finished the game with four points while Wetzel and Abbonizio trailed with three.
The trio of senior Matt Byron and first years Hunter Bryant and Kaleb Russell also recorded three points, all on one goal and two assists each.
Senior Conor Halpin, junior Ethan Dunnock, sophomores Brennan McKneely and Jarred Meehan, and first year Nathan Wess each put away one goal, with Dunnock and Wess' being their collegiate firsts. Halpin went a game-best 17-21 on face-offs with 13 ground balls as well.
First year Bradley Bennett, sophomore Stephen Butterfield, and senior Liam Enneguess each finished with an assist.
In net, graduate student Justin Scorese made eight saves. In front of Scorese, senior Thomas Bethune and graduate student Nicholas Mulvey each collected three ground balls, followed by Gossen, Wess, Dunnock, Bennett, and first year Connor Dunay with two apiece. Bethune caused a team-high two turnovers.
The win puts the Mustangs at 10-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play. In their six conference games this season, Stevenson has scored 134 goals. They look to round out the regular season with a victory on Saturday at home when they host Widener University at 7 p.m. The Mustangs have already clinched a playoff spot, but their opponent is still to be determined.
