YORK, Pa. - Stevenson Men's Lacrosse faced off against York College (Pa.) this evening in a MAC Commonwealth contest. Both teams are receiving votes per the latest USILA poll, but an early offensive strike by the hosting Spartans would propel them to an eventual 19-7 win.
York scored nine goals in the first quarter, beginning with a goal just 13 seconds into the game. Stevenson's lone goal in the opening period came courtesy of junior Jack Scaliti with three minutes remaining.
The Mustangs tightened the scoring gap in the subsequent quarters, scoring two in the second opposed to York's four and tying the third quarter at three goals apiece.
Stevenson's second quarter goals came from senior Dillon Linhardt and first year Darrell Curtis, both man-up and assisted by junior Grant Zick. Linhardt's goal was his eighth of the season while Curtis' was his 23rd.
In the third, sophomore Max Racich found the back of the net via junior Graeme McCrory for his team-leading 33rd goal of the season. Racich was followed by graduate student Ed Masterson for his first of the season. Masterson was assisted by Scaliti, who would then score his second goal of the night for the Mustangs' final goal of the quarter.
Racich was back in the fourth, capitalizing on another extra man opportunity with an assist to Scaliti. The goal was his 34th of the season and Scaliti's assist accounted for his fourth point of the night.
In net, graduate student Justin Scorese made 12 saves. In front of Scorese, senior Justin Tepper finished with a team-high six ground balls, followed by classmate Conor Halpin with five and graduate student Nick Mulvey with four.
The loss puts the Mustangs at 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the MAC Commonwealth. They look to return to the win column this Saturday, April 20th when they host Messiah University at 7 p.m.
