Mustangs softball ends short in doubleheader with River Hawks

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson softball (7-15, 4-6) ended an afternoon doubleheader against the Susquehanna University River Hawks (13-15, 4-6 Landmark) on Tuesday. The final scores were 3-1 and 4-2.
 
GAME 1
In the eight inning affair, sophomore shortstop Tessa Boswell got the Mustangs on the board first on a triple base hit resulting in an RBI as junior outfielder Rebecca Henry scored from third.
 
Tied 1-1 by the sixth inning, the River Hawks managed two runs in the extra eighth inning, securing their win.
 
Senior center fielder Maddie Bosley picked up two hits and a stolen base despite the loss. Sophomore pitcher Ky Vaughn pitched for all 8.0 innings, facing 31 at bats, five hits, and an earned run.
 
GAME 2
The Mustangs scored early in the bottom of the first, allowing Bosley on base to score despite a ground out.
 
In the bottom of the fifth, a sacrifice fly from Henry allowed senior utility Mackenzie Tobler to return home. The River Hawks secured their late game lead in the top of the seventh.
 
Tobler secured three hits and a run in the loss, with Henry and sophomore third base Rebecca Maiorano securing an RBI each. Two Mustangs pitched, with junior Grace Briggs taking the loss on one strikeout against 10 hits and three earned runs.
 
Mustangs softball host conference opponent Messiah University this Saturday, April 20 at 1 and 3 p.m. at East Campus.
