OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Men's Lacrosse hosted fifth-ranked Dickinson College tonight in a non-conference matchup. The Red Devils would turn on the offense in the second half, scoring nine unanswered goals to come away with a 14-6 win. The contest was Stevenson's last heading into the Mustang Classic on Friday and Saturday, March 15th and 16th.
The Red Devils got on the board just under one minute in, netting another goal minutes later. Junior Grant Zick cut their lead in half thanks to his first goal of the night, scored in an unassisted effort at the ten-minute mark.
Dickinson scored to end the first quarter and begin the second, but Zick halted the Red Devil momentum once more. Zick capitalized on an extra-man opportunity via sophomore Max Racich, bringing the score to 4-2 in favor of Dickinson.
The Red Devils went up for one more goal before senior Andrew Searing scored the Mustangs' third goal of the night and sixth goal of the season, citing an assist from Zick. To complete his hat trick, Zick scored within a minute of Searing, then assisted Racich in Stevenson's game-tying goal before the half was through.
Carrying on the offensive momentum that led them to tie the game at five, the Mustangs struck first early on in the third quarter. Junior Jered Monar scored his first goal of the season with a diving shot, giving the Mustangs their first lead of the game. Monar was assisted by Zick for his third assist and sixth point of the outing.
Dickinson dominated offensively throughout the second half, racking up three unanswered goals in the third and sixth in the fourth.
Graduate student Justin Scorese faced 52 shots in net, finishing with nine saves. Senior Conor Halpin went 14-23 on face-offs and collected a game-high seven ground balls. Graduate students Jack Seals and Nicholas Mulvey as well as sophomore Brennan McKneely each caused two turnovers.
