YORK, Pa. – The Stevenson University softball team was swept by York in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Friday afternoon at a windy Spartan Stadium.
In game one, York got six runs in the first two innings in a 9-1 win, while the Spartans (16-5, 5-1 MAC Commonwealth) won game two in a slugfest over the Mustangs (6-8, 3-3 MAC Commonwealth) 19-11.
In the opener, York took a 6-0 lead after two before Stevenson got on the board when
Rebecca Henry scored on a bases loaded walk by
Ava Stafursky.
McKenzie Tobler, Henry,
Rebecca Maiorano, Stafursky,
Madi Hershey and
Maddie Buher all had hits.
Molly Parker allowed six earned runs in 1.1 innings before
Grace Briggs had one strike out and one walk in four innings of relief work.
Game two saw the Mustangs slug 11 hits and score 11 runs.
The Mustangs scored two runs in the first as Tobler doubled to left scoring Bosley, followed by Tobler scoring on an RBI groundout by Stafursky.
Trailing 3-2 after the first, Tobler doubled down the line scoring Bosley and
Mykaela Getz to give the Mustangs a 4-3 lead.
Stevenson would plate five runs in the third, with Maiorano scoring on a RBI single by Stafursky. Getz would then hit an RBI single scoring Stafursky, followed by a two-run double from Bosley scoring Getz and
Danielle Mills.
Maiorano would then hit an RBI single to score Bosley for the 9-7 lead. After York scored the next eight runs to take a 15-9 lead, Stevenson got two back in the fifth when Tobler doubled to score Getz, with Tobler later scoring an RBI single by Henry.
Tobler had four RBI on a 3-for-3 performance in game two, with Maiorano and Getz having two hits each.
Briggs took the loss in relief of
Ky Vaughn. Vaughn went two innings allowing eight runs, while Briggs allowed five earned runs in 1.2 innings of work.
Lindsey Tolle and Parker also pitched in game two.
Stevenson travels to Gettysburg on Thursday.
