CHESTER, Pa. – Stevenson baseball (8-9, 3-2) stepped back into conference play against the Widener University Pride (5-11, 1-4) and swept the doubleheader 5-3 and 10-8 on Friday afternoon.
GAME 1
The Mustangs made quick action in the first inning, scoring three runs after first-year outfield
Christopher Manco stole second and advanced to third on an error. Sophomore outfield
Graham Sears also added a stolen base, scoring on the throw. A single from junior outfield
Dalton Reinhart in the first inning allowed Manco to score the second run.
In the second inning, the Mustangs added a triple off the bat of senior first baseman
Nick Tamberino, allowing Manco and junior infield
Brady Bedway to return home.
The final run of the first game arrived in the fourth inning, when Reinhart hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Sears to score from third.
In game 1, Tamberino and Reinhart each added two RBI, while Manco totaled three walks. Five hits were added in the first game. At pitching, first-year
Jake Treasure got the win with all innings pitched on three strikeouts, three runs and 10 hits.
GAME 2
The Mustangs got on the board early in the first inning of the second game. A double from Reinhart allowed Tamberino to score. First-year infield Jalyon Surell followed with a single and despite an out at second base, Reinhart scored on the play.
In the second inning, an error allowed Manco to hit second base. Sears and junior infield
Brandon Perillo returned home on the play.
Two sacrifice flyouts secured the next two runs for the Mustangs, despite the Pride trailing. The win was officially secured in the sixth inning with Sears scoring on an error. A seventh inning error allowed Sears to advance to first and Bedway and Perillo to return home, securing the eighth and ninth runs.
The final run arrived in the eighth inning on a single from Bedway. Advancing to second on the throw, this allowed sophomore catcher
John Padousis to lock in the final run for the Mustangs. The final score was 10-8.
Sears earned three RBI in the second game with two runs and a walk. Manco totaled two RBI and two hits. Three Mustangs pitched in the second game, with senior
Jake Pigeon hitting three strikeouts on five runs and five hits. Senior
Jason Labrador got a save with 1.0 inning pitched and one strikeout. Sophomore
Brendan Phillips got the win with 4.1 innings pitched and two strikeouts.
