NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Stevenson University softball team went 1-1 on Day Three of its Spring Training Trip in South Carolina.
In the opener, Stevenson defeated Oswego in the bottom of the seventh by a 7-6 score. In the nightcap, the Mustangs (2-4) fell to William Peace by a score of 9-3.
Stevenson 7, Oswego 6
Rebecca Maiorano's RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh broke open a 6-6 tie and scored
Rebecca Henry for the game-winner.
Stevenson led 1-0 after one when Maiorano drove in her first run of the day scoring
Maddie Bosley on a sacrifice fly.
After Oswego plated three runs in the fourth, Stevenson got one back in the fourth when Maiorano scored on a sacrifice fly by
Danielle Mills.
Trailing 4-2 heading to the bottom half of the fifth, Stevenson scored four runs in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead.
Tessa Boswell tripled to score
Maddie Buher, while Boswell and
Mykaela Getz scored on an error during at-bat by Bosley.
Bosley would later score the fourth run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by
McKenzie Tobler.
Henry, Maiorano each finished with two hits, while Maiorano and Bosley each had two RBI.
Ky Vaughn got the win in relief of
Molly Parker. Vaughn, in three innings of work, had two strikeouts an allowed two earned runs. Parker went four innings, allowing three earned runs and struck out one.
William Peace 9, Stevenson 3
After William Peace took a 4-0 lead after two innings, Stevenson was able to get two back in the bottom of the inning a Boswell scored Mills on an error, followed by Boswell eventually scoring on a RBI single by
Elizabeth Russo.
Stevenson would plate its third run as Maiorano drove home Tobler on an error.
Tobler and Russo had two hits in the game.
Lindsey Tolle took the loss, allowing four earned runs in 1.1 innings of work.
Grace Briggs struck out one in 4.2 innings of relief, while Vaughn allowed just two hits in one inning of relief.
The Mustangs take on Vermont State Casleton and UMPI on their final day in South Carolina on Thursday.
