ANNVILLE, Pa. – Stevenson baseball (5-6) added another win on their road trip against the Lebanon Valley College Flying Dutchmen (7-4) in a four-hour affair. The game was called at eight innings completed due to darkness.
The Mustangs got on the board first on a single in the top of the first from junior outfield
Dalton Reinhart. Having advanced on an error earlier, sophomore outfield
Graham Sears scored the first run of the afternoon for the Mustangs.
By the bottom of the first, the Flying Dutchmen quickly tied 1-1 before adding five total runs of their own. Following a quick top of the second, The Flying Dutchmen homered in the bottom of the second.
The Mustangs singled in the top of the fourth. On these and a walk from first-year outfield
Christopher Manco, the Mustangs accumulated five more runs, trailing the Flying Dutchmen.
By the top of the fifth, sophomore outfield
Kaige Garrity earned a triple, allowing Reinhart who singled earlier in the inning to score. Garrity subsequently scored on a passed ball to tie 8-8.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Flying Dutchmen swapped leads again, gaining five runs. The Mustangs totaled seven runs in the top of the sixth with three left on base and two hits, gaining the lead once again.
The final tie occurred near the end of the bottom of the sixth, when the Flying Dutchmen advanced on a single and three walks, one intentional.
In the top of the seventh, Garrity reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. A double from junior catcher
Matt Perri allowed him to return home. Another single from Manco allowed Perri to add the 17
th run for the Mustangs. The final run arrived in the top of the eighth when Sears singled, reached second on an error, then scored on a wild pitch.
In total, the Mustangs earned 15 hits on eight walks and six strikeouts with eight total left on base. Perri and Reinhart ended the evening with three RBI each, while Manco, junior infield
Brady Bedway, and sophomore infield
Noah Joly each achieved two.
On pitching, six Mustangs had time on the mound with sophomore
Brendan Phillips getting the win on two hits, one run, one walk and a strikeout. First-year
Jake Treasure earned a save in the victory for the Mustangs.
The team will next take on the Hood College Blazers in conference play this Friday, March 15 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
