Smith nets first collegiate goal in loss to Manhattanville

RYE, N.Y. - Stevenson Women's Ice Hockey faced off against Manhattanville College tonight in game one of their regular-season series. The Mustangs would come back from a two-goal deficit in the second, but the Valiants would ultimately pull ahead in the third for a 4-2 final.

Manhattanville scored their first goal of the night at the halfway point of the period on the power-play, then extended their lead to two before the first period expired.

The Mustangs, however, would bounce back with a productive second period. Sophomore Meghan Croyle started the period with her third goal of the season, citing assists from seniors Cassie Campbell and Emily Brightbill. Ten minutes later, first year Abby Smith found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career, converting passes from classmate Emma DeMan and senior Franki Cappello to tie the game on the power-play.

Campbell and Cappello are tied for a team-high five assists after tonight's game. Croyle totals six points while Brightbill and DeMan follow with five points apiece. Smith's goal elevates her point total to four.

In the circle, Campbell went a team-best 10-for-15 on draws.

Between the pipes, junior netminder Olivia DeGuire made 35 stops with ten in the first period, 13 in the second, and 12 in the third. In front of DeGuire, Brightbill logged a game-high four blocks, followed by DeMan with three and both Campbell and first year Lola Russell with two each.

The Mustangs close out their series with the Valiants tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
