OWINGS MILLS, Md. – In its season opener, the Stevenson University women's lacrosse team came out strong against ninth-ranked Salisbury on Saturday.
The Mustangs kept pace with the Seagulls, before Sallsbury outscored Stevenson 7-0 in the third period on the way to a 20-7 win.
Stevenson got a pair of goals form
Kara Yarusso,
Isabelle VanEmburgh and
Erin Steinberg while Baily Krahl also had a goal for the Mustangs. Yarusso and VanEmburgh collected two assists a piece on the afternoon.
Sophia Murray had six draw controls, with Yarusso netting five.
Ava Treakle and VanEmburgh had two each.
In goal,
Regan Torbert had 13 saves over 47 minutes.
Abby Eash and
Anna Johnson each saw action in the final period, with both getting a save.
Erin Scannell and Miranda Mears each had three goals for Salisbury, with Mary Hanzsche, Leah Vilov, Camryn Pepper and Abby Lantos scoring two each.
Trailing 2-1 in the opening period, Stevenson got goals from Steinberg and VanEmburgh, both off of Yarusso assists. The last one came with 9:01 left in the opening stanza giving Stevenson a 3-2 lead.
Four straight goals from Salisbury gave the Seagulls the lead for good, but, Stevenson got back with two at 7-5 as VanEmburgh scored with 6:16 left in the second quarter.
Stevenson hits the road on Saturday, taking on border-rival Gettysburg.
