Mustangs take down Monarchs on the road

WILKES BARRE, Pa. – The Stevenson women's basketball team notched a 57-50 win over the King's College Monarchs on Saturday afternoon. Stephenae Lawrence posted 14 points on the afternoon, as Nadia Ferguson put up 13.
 
Lawrence put up the first basket of the contest just over two minutes into the game off a ball from Emori Jeselskis. The Mustangs then put up 11 more points while holding the Monarchs to nine points, to slot a 13-9 lead heading into the second quarter. Janiya Ennis started off the second quarter with a three-pointer 13 seconds in, but King's battled back and took a one-point lead heading into half time, 24-23.
 
Destiny Towns put up the first points of the second half to put Stevenson ahead by a point. For the remainder of the third quarter, both teams battled back-and-forth keeping the contest close, but it was King's that kept the lead heading into the final quarter, 43-41.
 
 In the fourth quarter, Stevenson put the foot on the gas. With only 22 seconds left in the contest, Jeselskis put up two free-throws to extend Stevenson to a four-point lead, followed by two more free-throws with 13 seconds on the clock to make it a 56-50 contest. In the last four seconds, Ennis put up one more free-throw to cap off the 57-50 win for the Mustangs.
 
Lawrence led the points column with 14 on the afternoon, while grabbing four rebounds. Ferguson followed with 13 points, but notched four steals, and posted three rebounds and assists. Tessa Bowell led the rebounds column with seven, as Ennis was right behind with six. Boswell, Ennis, Jeselskis, and Janie Smith all had a six-point afternoon.
 
The Mustangs will return home to Owings Mills Gymnasium as the squad prepares to host St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday, Dec. 14. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
