REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Women's Hockey hosted Wilkes University tonight in their return to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play. Wilkes scored first, and though Stevenson would even the score, the Colonels ran away with the game's offense to come away with an 8-2 victory.
Stevenson's first goal came courtesy of sophomore Carleigh Barwick at the midpoint of the second period, equalizing Wilkes' first period score. The goal was her team-leading fourth of the season, and she was assisted by classmate Abby Smith and first year Kira Otto.
The Colonels bounced back for three straight goals before junior Meghan Croyle cut off their spree, finding the back of the net on the power-play via Otto and senior Megan Swick. Croyle's goal was her third while Otto's assists tonight place her at three and Swick at one.
Wilkes was the lone team to score in the third period, adding four goals to come away with the 8-2 final.
Smith and junior Natasha Neelon tallied four blocks apiece to the aid of junior Maggie Sehnert, who made 54 stops in net. 22 of those saves came in the first period.
The Mustangs fall to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in conference. They look to earn a series split against the Colonels tomorrow afternoon with their 3 p.m. puck drop at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
