OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson gave eighth-ranked Gettysburg all it could handle on Wednesday night, before the Bullets (8-0) pulled away in the second half in a 72-62 win over the Mustangs (3-2) in men's basketball play.
The Bullets used the power of the three pointer, sinking 11 three-pointers on the night on 32 attempts.
For Stevenson,
Mason Jones had a team-high 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Cameron Smith had ten points, with
Cameron Sapienza getting 13 points off the bench.
As a team, Stevenson was 37.7 percent from the field and only committed ten turnovers.
Jordan Stafford had 20 points for Gettysburg with Carl Schaller getting 18.
Despite sustaining an opening punch by Gettysburg, who went up 7-0 in the first minutes, Stevenson battled back and went up one at 13-12 with 11:17 left in the opening half on a layup by
Kole Beaman.
Gettysburg regained the lead but Stevenson quickly grabbed it back at 21-20 with 5:43 left in the opening half on a layup by
Bryson Whitley.
In the second half, with the score tied at 35-all, the Bullets went on a 11-2 run to take a 46-37 lead with 13:47 left and never looked back. The Mustangs got to within six, but could not close the gap.
Stevenson heads to Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
