REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Women's Hockey hosted Trine University this evening in a non-conference matchup. Though the Thunder finished the first period with a 2-0 lead, the Mustangs came back with four different goal-scorers in the second to come away with a 4-3 victory.
Trine scored at the five- and 12-minute marks in the opening 20, but Stevenson did not let their pair of goals go unanswered.
First year Kira Otto cut the goal deficit in half just three minutes into the second period on the Mustangs' power-play, citing assists from junior Meghan Croyle and graduate student Gracie Payne. The goal was Otto's second of the season.
Croyle found the back of the net just minutes after Otto to knot the game at two, once again getting an assist from Gracie Payne and adding graduate student Franki Cappello. Croyle's goal was her team-leading fifth on the year, and tonight's performance gives her a team-best nine points. Payne and Cappello follow with four points each on the season.
Sophomore Emma DeMan came up big for the Mustangs just two minutes later, scoring the go-ahead goal after catching a pass from classmate Abby Smith. DeMan's goal was her fifth to tie Croyle, while Smith's assist was her fifth as well.
Stevenson's game-winner came with three firsts. Graduate student Katie May notched her first NCAA goal while first years McKayla Peters and Jalyn Jones recorded their first collegiate assists.
Trine was able to manage one final goal on a 5-on-3 while pulling their goalie, but they fell short in the final moments of the third period.
Senior netminder Olivia DeGuire stood on her head to make 45 total saves, including 18 in the second period and 15 in the third.
The Mustangs' victory is their third of the season, and they look to complete the sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they face off against the Thunder on home ice.
