Football explodes for 56 points in win over Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. – The Stevenson University football team snapped a two-game losing streak in an emphatic way, as the Mustangs (5-4, 5-3 MAC) defeated Misericordia (3-6, 2-6 MAC) 56-17 on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the win, Stevenson clinched a non-losing season and remained alive for either a bid in the MAC-Centennial Bowl or ECAC Bowl, depending upon next week's outcome.
 
Nyaire Wilson threw for 284 yards and four touchdowns on 20-for-27 passing, with Kirk Reed running for 146 yards on 28 carries for two scores. Wilson threw his four scores to four different receivers, with Deion Richardson catching seven passes for 136 yards and a score. Ryan McClain, Dillion Johnson and Reed also caught TD passes on the afternoon.
 
Elijah Williams had a scoring run for Stevenson, who had 528 yards of total offense.
 
Gavin Shields had six stops including three tackles for losses of 11 yards and one sack. Daryus Henderson had an 50-yard interception return for a touchdown.
 
Stevenson took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter as Reed ran from 2-yards out, completing a 72 yard drive in ten plays.
 
After Misericordia tied the score early in the second quarter, Wilson three touchdown passes in the second quarter. His first was an 8-yard pass to McClain for a 14-7 lead followed by a 17-yard pass from Wilson to Reed with 1:47 left making the score 21-7. The final score of the quarter came at 25 seconds as Richardson caught a 23-yard pass from Wilson for a 28-7 margin. Misericordia would get a field goal at the end of the half to cut the deficit to 28-10.
 
In the third quarter, Reed made the lead 35-10 on a 5-yard run with 6:55 left.
 
Johnson put the Mustangs up 42-17 with 10:06 left in the game as he caught a 12-yard scoring pass from Wilson, followed by Williams' 7-yard scoring run with 7:02 left in the game.
 
Henderson had his pick six with 5:29 left in the game.
 
Stevenson heads back to Wilkes-Barre next week, taking on MAC champion King's at noon in the regular season finale.
