Mustangs dealt loss from Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Stevenson women's basketball team fell 71-51 to the Southern Virginia Knights on Tuesday evening on the road.
 
The Knights put the first basket up on the evening, as the Mustangs were not far behind making it a 2-2 game only 14 seconds in. Emori Jeselskis netted a three-pointer with 9:25 on the clock to slot a 5-2 lead, but Southern Virginia put their foot on the gas and opened a 11-point lead heading into the second quarter 18-7. In the second quarter, both teams contributed offensively, but it was the Knights who came out on top at half time leading 34-21.
 
In the third quarter, the Mustangs battled back as the squad put up 17-points, but the Knights put up 20 to slot a 54-38 lead. In the final quarter, the Knights posted a 20-point lead to take the 71-51 win over the Mustangs.
 
Janiya Ennis had a stellar game for the Mustangs, netting 17 points, while grabbing nine steals and four rebounds. Jeselsekis registered an eight-point evening and grabbed two rebounds. Stephenae Lawrence, Tessa Boswell, and Sanaa Thorne all put up five points for Stevenson. Lawrence also snagged five rebounds while dishing out two assists, as Throne grabbed three rebounds.
 
Stevenson will prepare to return to Owings Mills Gymnasium to host Maryland rival, Salisbury University on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
