REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Women's Hockey earned their first sweep of the season today with their 4-1 win over conference opponent Hood College. The Mustangs scored twice in each of the first two periods, never giving the Blazers a chance to catch up.
Sophomore Carleigh Barwick got on the board at the halfway point of the first period, giving classmate Abby Smith and first year Kira Otto both of their second assists of the season.
Before the opening period expired, senior Maddie Silverman notched her first goal of the season thanks to a set up by junior Meghan Croyle and first year Delaney Hewlings. The assist was Croyle's third of the season while Hewlings' point was her career first.
Barwick returned to the scoresheet thanks to a power-play opportunity early in the second, accounting for her third goal on the year. She was assisted by Silverman as well as Lola Russell, whose assist was the first of her career as well.
Senior Megan Swick recorded her second goal of the weekend and season within 20 seconds of Barwick's goal, capitalizing on a Blazer turnover.Â
Though Hood would score early in the third, Stevenson did not allow them to build any offensive momentum. For the Mustangs, junior Maggie Sehnert earned her first win of the season with a 16-save performance.
In the circle, junior Maggie Dean went 11-for-20 and first year McKayla Peters followed, going 9-for-13.
The pair of victories this weekend put the Mustangs at 2-4 overall and 2-2 in MAC play. They look to extend their win streak at the Reisterstown Sportsplex next weekend with their series against Arcadia, set for Friday, November 22nd at 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 23rd at 3 p.m.
