REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Men's Hockey wrapped up their conference series with Misericordia University this evening. After 65 minutes of play and six rounds of a shootout, the Mustangs would earn the extra point from their 3-3 tie with the Cougars.
The majority of the opening period went scoreless until senior Liam McCanney found the back of the net at the 14-minute mark via classmate Nick Dineen. The goal and assist were McCanney's fourth and Dineen's second.
Misericordia tied the game back up just a few minutes later before the period expired.
McCanney was back with his fifth goal of the season on the power-play early in the second, citing assists from junior Jack Karlsson and senior Dylan Florit. Karlsson's assist accounts for his team-leading seventh point while Florit's gives him four on the season.
Misericordia responded with two straight goals to take their first lead of the series. However, another power-play opportunity would be capitalized upon by junior Blake Benson for the first time this season. Classmate Caden Smith and first year Aiden Lindley picked up their third and sixth points of the season, respectively.
Knotted at three, the Mustangs and Cougars entered overtime. Misericordia got off four shots in the five-minute period, all of which were turned aside by junior Ford DeLoss.
The continued stalemate forced a shootout, with five rounds going completely goalless. Misericordia shot first, and Stevenson's sixth shooter Dylan Florit called game to earn the Mustangs the extra MAC point.
Smith went 14 for 21 in the circle followed by Lindley with eight wins, senior Graeme McCrory with seven, and Florit with six.
In net, DeLoss finished with 18 regulation and overtime saves before stopping all six Cougar shootout attempts.
Stevenson returns to MAC action next Friday and Saturday, November 22nd and 23rd, at Arcadia University. The Mustangs and Knights will face off at Hatfield Ice Arena at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
