Dixon and Jeselskis Notch 10-Point Evening as Mustangs Defeat Washington College (Md.)

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's basketball team defeated Washington College (Md.) Shorewomen 47-35 on Tuesday evening in the squad's home opener. In the contest, Erin Dixon and Emori Jeselskis each put up 10 points in the victory.

Jeselskis opened scoring for the Mustangs a minute and a half into the match with a three pointer off a pass from Stephenae Lawrence. For the remainder for the first quarter, Stevenson pushed a hard defense to keep a 9-6 lead heading into the second quarter. Throughout the second quarter, it was a back-and-forth battle. The Shorewomen would not let the Mustangs extend their lead past six points, but Stevenson still kept their foot on the gas to take a 16-14 lead into halftime.

Washington came out hot in the second half, as they tied the game 19-19 a little over a minute into the third quarter. Despite the offensive efforts from Washington, the Mustangs pulled away with a 10-point lead to end the quarter as Elia Richardson put up a lay-up to make it a 37-27 game. In the fourth quarter, the Mustangs continued battling to extend their lead, as Dixon made it a 12-point lead with a free throw with just under four minutes remaining in the contest. The Mustangs kept the 12-point lead to snatch the 47-35 win.

Jeselskis had a 10-point evening with four rebounds and assist, as Dixon netted 10 points with three rebounds and an assist. Janie Smith slotted seven points on the evening with three blocks and two rebounds and Elia Richardson put up six-points. Destiny Towns and Tessa Boswell, both had strong defensive evenings for Stevenson, grabbing eight and seven rebounds respectively, and a steal each.
