READING, Pa. - Stevenson Men's Hockey rounded out their conference-opening series with Alvernia tonight at Santander Arena. The Golden Wolves got up early in the game and continued to pour on the offense well into the third period.
Alvernia got on the board just three minutes in, but first year Aiden Lindley extended his point streak just five minutes later with his second goal of the season. Linemates Gage Parillo and Connor MacDonell were credited with assists in the effort.
The Golden Wolves responded with two straight goals, one to finish the first and one to start the second. Senior Liam McCanney made history before the second period expired as he netted his 51st career goal, giving him a program-best 88 career points. McCanney was assisted by classmate Dylan Florit and junior John Musella for their third and first points of the season, respectively.
McCanney was not done, however, as he notched his third goal of the season early in the first. Senior Evan Beers would pick up his first assist of the season on the play.
Alvernia went the distance in the third, totaling four goals to extend their lead to 7-3.
In net, first year Jake Hugessen made 32 stops.
The loss sets the Mustangs at 3-1 overall and 1-1 in MAC play. They look to return to the win column when they host Misericordia University in a pair of MAC contests next weekend. Friday's puck drop is set for 7 p.m. to kick off the series.
