OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Field Hockey hosted fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins on the East Campus tonight in their final non-conference contest of the season. At the end of a hard-fought 60 minutes, the Blue Jays came away with a 2-1 victory.
Hopkins came out strong, tallying ten shots in the first quarter alone. Five of those shots landed on net, and their final shot of the opening period found its way in the net. The Blue Jays would double their lead with another late-quarter goal in the second. Both of Hopkins' goals were scored off of penalty corners.
Stevenson cut the Blue Jays' lead in half early in the third thanks to a penalty stroke goal scored by graduate student Emma Gladstein. The goal was her 16th on the season and marks her second penalty stroke goal in the last two games. Gladstein was responsible for all three of Stevenson's shots on goal.
In net, sophomore Jordan Vradenburgh made nine stops, bringing her season save total to 41.Â
The Mustangs now stand at 9-2-1 at the conclusion of non-conference play. Their only losses came to top-five ranked opponents. Stevenson kicks off MAC Commonwealth play this Saturday, October 12th with a visit to No. 8 York College (Pa.).
