Field Hockey dealt first loss by No. 2 Salisbury

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson Field Hockey hosted second-ranked Salisbury University on the East Campus this afternoon. After a back-and-forth battle throughout the game, the Sea Gulls would narrowly escape with a 3-2 victory.

Salisbury got on the board ten minutes into the game, capitalizing on an early corner. However, Stevenson returned the favor just three minutes later on a corner of their own as graduate student Emma Gladstein found the back of the net thanks to the insertion by sophomore Lauren Schulz.

Carrying their momentum into the second quarter, Gladstein would score her 15th goal of the season on a penalty stroke just 46 seconds in to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead.

Salisbury would erase the deficit shortly after on another corner, then net their game-winner on a penalty stroke before the first half expired.

Stevenson is the lone team this season to score more than one goal against the now 10-1 Sea Gulls.

Gladstein led the Mustang offense with five shots on goal, followed by sophomore Shae Bennett with two and junior Brenna Benson with one.

In net, sophomore Jordan Vradenburgh made six saves, three in each of the first two quarters.

The Mustangs, now 9-1-1 overall, are scheduled to host No. 4 Johns Hopkins on the East Campus next Wednesday, October 9th at 7 p.m.
