RADNOR, Pa. – Eastern outscored Stevenson 17-7 in the second half as the Eagles (3-4, 3-3 MAC) defeated the Mustangs (4-3, 4-2 MAC) 24-14 on Saturday afternoon in football action on the Main Line.
Stevenson did outgain the Eagles 360-354 in total offense, but committed four turnovers as the Mustangs saw their four game win streak come to an end.
Nyaire Wilson threw for 261 yards and two scores on 22-of-42 passing, throwing scores to
Dillon Johnson and
Deion Richardson. In the loss, Johnson caught 13 passes for 146 yards, while Richardson corralled six passes for 90 yards.
LJ Blackwell had 97 yards rushing on 24 attempts.
Defensively,
Gavin Shields had eight tackles, with
Bryan Kelly and
Anthony Russo netting six each.
Stevenson took its first drive and went down to the Eastern 15-yard line before a fumble ended the drive. However, on its next drive, the Mustangs converted a score as Wilson threw a 14-yard pass to Johnson for a 7-0 lead with 2:22 left in the first quarter.
Eastern tied the score on its next drive with Brett Nabb throwing an 8-yard pass to Chris Rivera just 57 seconds into the second quarter to knot the score at 7-all.
While neither team scored the rest of the quarter, the Mustangs did get a drive down to the Eastern 17 with just over two minutes left but could not score.
Eastern would take a 14-7 lead on its first drive after halftime, as Nabb rushed 46 yards for a score with 12:12 left in the third. The Eagles would take a 17-7 lead on a 29-yard field goal from John Nolek with 5:52 left.
Stevenson would get back within three at 17-14 with just 11 seconds left in the third as Richardson caught a 27-yard pass from Wilson.
Eastern's final score came with just 1:54 left in the game as the Eagles controlled the clock, capped by Nabb rushing 20 yards up the middle for the final 24-14 margin.
Stevenson will host FDU-Florham on Saturday at noon in its first Miliary Appreciation Game.
