OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson University held its opponent without a touchdown for the second straight game on Saturday, as the Mustangs (4-2, 4-1 MAC) defeated Albright (1-5, 0-5 MAC) 48-3 in front of a sold out Homecoming crowd.
Stevenson set a new school record, as the Mustangs allowed just eight yards rushing in the contest, on its way to its fourth straight win. The victory allowed the Mustangs to remain one game behind first-place King's.
Quarterback
Nyaire Wilson threw for 187 yards and one score, while going 8-for-15. Five of those passes went to
Deion Richardson who had a game-high 162 yards receiving with one score.
LJ Blackwell rushed for 87 yards and two scores as the Mustangs rambled for 230 yards on the ground.
Kirk Reed and Wilson each had a rushing score.
Chris Velardi had a 15-yard fumble recovery for a score in the third quarter, as the Mustangs defense had seven sacks on the afternoon.
Amari Fleming-Powell had seven tackles on the night, with
Thomas Fisher having 2.5 sacks with Ibrahim Hall having 1.5 sacks.
Stevenson struck first as Blackwell capped an 80-yard, four-play drive with a score from 23-yards out for a 7-0 lead with 10:01 left in the first. The Mustangs went up 10-0 in the first as
Donnie Waitt hit the first of two field goals on the day, this time from 33-yards out with 3:36 left.
The Mustangs took a 17-0 lead in the second quarter when Blackwell scored his second TD of the day on an 11-yard rush with 3:05 left. With Albright driving toward the end of the half,
Clarence Travis picked up a fumble and returned it 60 yards to end the scoring threat.
Stevenson struck quickly in the third, as Wilson threw a 40-yard bomb to Richardson for a score and a 24-0 lead just 27 seconds in.
Albright got on the board via field goal with 11:15 left, with Stevenson answering back on a 6-yard rush by Wilson with 4:36 left for a 31-3 lead. Velardi would score on a fumble recovery on Albright's next drive with 2:38 left for a 38-3 lead.
Stevenson's last touchdown came on a 9-yard run from Reed ending an 11-play, 72-yard drive with nine minutes left to go. Waitt would add a 32-yard field goal with 6:37 left to end the scoring.
The Mustangs head to Eastern next week, it's first trip to the Eagles facility.
