REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Men's Hockey hosted King's College of Pennsylvania this afternoon to round out their regular-season series that began on December 9th. King's came out hot and earned the 5-3 victory, splitting the series.
The Mustangs got on the board first thanks to senior Zach Bannister, set up by sophomore Blake Benson and junior Jake Roberts. Bannister's goal was his fifth of the season, while Benson and Roberts' assists put them at nine and one, respectively. Benson stands as the team leader in points with 14 total after today's game.
After two straight power-play goals from the Monarchs, senior Brendan Rylott found the back of the net for the third time this season as rookie Eitan Geralnik collected his first collegiate point on the assist. First year Rhett Evjen would force the King's goaltender to cough up the puck behind the net just three minutes later, capitalizing on the turnover and putting the Mustangs in the lead once again.
Evjen's goal was the last of the game for Stevenson as King's rallied for three more goals in the third.
The Mustangs totaled 47 shots on goal, led by senior Frank Vitucci and junior Malcolm Palmer with six apiece and Brendan Rylott with five. In the circle, senior Eric Olson went a game-best 15-for-26.
In net, junior Ty Outen stopped 27 shots, including ten and 12 in each of the first two periods.
The Mustangs are back in action this Friday, January 12th at 7 p.m. on home ice against Lebanon Valley. They will travel to Hersheypark Arena on Saturday for another 7 p.m. puckdrop against the Flying Dutchmen to close out the series.
