REISTERSTOWN, Md. - Stevenson Men's Hockey hosted Lebanon Valley College tonight in a UCHC and MAC matchup. Despite a scoreless first period, the Mustangs came out flying in the second, scoring four of their six goals before adding their final two in the third period.
The second period saw six goals between the two teams. First year Matt Yeager netted his first collegiate goal early in the second period on the Mustangs' power-play with assists going to sophomore John Musella and junior Aidan Graham.Â
Less than a minute later, junior Kyle Lightfoot scored his first goal of the season, helped along by senior Eric Olson and sophomore Jack Karlsson.Â
Junior Liam McCanney notched his tenth goal and 14th point of the season two minutes after Lightfoot's goal, giving Yeager his second point of the night and seventh of the season on the assist.
The Flying Dutchmen would rally back, but their offensive success was short-lived. Junior Graeme McCrory scored the final goal of the second period to break up Lebanon Valley's momentum with minutes to spare. The goal was McCrory's second of the season while seniors Brendan Rylott and Frank Vitucci were credited with their sixth and fourth assists, respectively.
Sophomore Blake Benson scored the Mustangs' second power-play goal near the halfway point of the third period with Karlsson and classmate Aidan McDowell assisting. McDowell's assist was his fourth of the season and he totals six points. The Mustangs finished the game two-for-two on power-plays.
Karlsson became the game's sole point leader with his first goal of the season shortly after, ending the game with three. McCrory earned his second point of the game on the assist and won a team-high 10 draws in the circle, tying with sophomore John Musella.
In net, junior Ty Outen earned his tenth victory of his first season with the Mustangs, stopping 33 shots.Â
With the win, the Mustangs improve to 11-4-1 overall, 7-3-1 in the UCHC, and 3-2 in the MAC. Stevenson heads to historic Hersheypark Arena tomorrow night to round out their series with the Dutchmen.
